Hello, I’m Jeni Hemingson and I’m a Kindergarten teacher at Islands Elementary!

I’ve been teaching at Islands Elementary for four years, and I truly couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. Kindergarten is such a special place to be because our days are filled with big “aha” moments. Along with learning important academic skills, my students are also learning how to become a classroom family and what it means to be part of a school community for the very first time.

One of the things that makes Islands Elementary so special is our Kindergarten team. We work closely together - not just to plan lessons, but to build strong relationships with all of our Kindergarten students. We genuinely care about the Kindergarten class as a whole, and that sense of teamwork shows in everything we do.

Fun fact about me: I can read upside-down almost as fast as I can read right-side-up - which comes in very handy in Kindergarten!

At Islands Elementary, our Kindergarten classrooms provide a nurturing, welcoming environment where every child is supported and encouraged to explore, grow, and feel part of a close-knit school community. Our students engage in hands-on learning, small-group activities, and daily routines that help them build academic skills, confidence, and independence.

Conventional Kindergarten provides rigorous instruction in core academic areas that address the Arizona state standards in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Conventional also offers rich opportunities for students that promote positive social skills and character development within a structured learning environment.
