In fifth grade, we learn how to do all four operations with fractions and decimals. We learn both the standard and metric systems of measurement. We use algebraic thinking to solve real world problems. We read numerous non-fiction and fiction texts. We use thinking maps to organize our thoughts. We write persuasive, narrative, expository and functional writing. We learn about the history of our nation from prehistory to modern day. We learn about our planet and solar system. We learn about the atom and the states of matter. We learn about inventors and technology. In fifth grade, we do a little bit of everything.
